Vulcan Seals Type VC5 is square-braided from high-quality Carbon yarns impregnated with pure Graphite, special high-temperature lubricants and Molybdenum Disulfide. The Carbon yarns are densely braided to provide a near frictionless, self-lubricating seal. Graphite powder provides non-migrating lubrication between the Gland Packing and the shaft. The non-glazing, high-temperature lubricant protects during the packing break-in period. The addition of Molybdenum Disulfide gives high temperature and high-pressure lubrication with shaft wear protection even when contact pressures between Gland Packing and shaft are excessive.

The Type VC5 Carbon fibre Gland Packing is swift to break-in because of its low friction lubricant intensive constituents and these characteristics allow for its extended life in arduous duties. Vulcan Seals Type VC5 can be used in services where many other lubricated fibre Gland Packing types fail, due to migration or loss of lubrication and consequent fibre burning, hardening or glazing. Type VC51 is reinforced with Inconel wire for high-pressure static applications up to 5,075 psi (350 bar) to give an exceptional capability, performance and lasting valve packing for use up to 200 fpm (1m/s).
